Whakarongo Water Sports Facility.

Okey dokey folks.  One thing that is hugely missing from Palmy - a watersports facility that offers the chance for our out of towners a chance to share this city in a way never dreamed of before and for our folks too.

1.  The Track - as stated is 2250m long and 300m wide, capable of racing at all positions (predominantly Rowing and Canoeing.)

2.  Staging area has skiff housing for all local clubs/schools craft.  Adminit self evident. To included timing, security, Water intake/outlet  controls.  Water intake and outlet envisaged to be active for 30 minutes every four hours, less in summer.

3.The construction of the lake and embankment.  The proposed track will be scooped out to a depth of 5 metres.  All scooped land will build two embankments either side of the Track.  I'm thinking  maybe line the bottom with disused tyres, then cementing to a constant depth of 4.2m.  The lane markers and starter blocks will be activated by hydraulics and controlled from the Admin position.

4.  Grandstands.  One each side at southwest end of track and from 100m before then after finish line.

5.  Waterworld.  A small zone for fun behind the east side of the track, with bumper boats and water slides.  Also a White Water Kayaking course.

6  Target Sports on Track.

a.  Rowing
b.  Canoeing
c.  Kayaking (White Water)
d.  Waterskiing (Fly by Wire)
e   Wing Sailing
f.  Board Sailing
g.  Jet Ski racing.
h.  Wakeboarding (Fly by Wire)
i.  PADI Dive Training  (coupled with lake bottom maintenance)
j.  Long Distance or Marathon Swim Training

Fair to say the dream is a dream.  But a viable one.  The land in the Te Matai Road area is currently Market Gardens but a possible if Horizons and PNCC enact a rezoning.  Basically a win win.
