A Bad Man on a Mission Plan (or how to drive like a Nutter)
This image is 90% the same as mine, didn't have the black stripe and mine had a rear window louvre.
Where:
JRFM Devonport Naval Base
When:
A Friday some time in 1983 - 2000 hours
What:
Rung Mum in Palmy Saying on my way Home.
How:
My trusty 1978 MK II Ford Escort 1600cc (rally tuned)
and Wonderful Daring.
Departed DNB at 2045. I always do longer drives at night - Why??
1. Cops in Bed
2. Can hit the Gas all the way, no stock on the road.
3. If oncoming traffic can see it in the distance and get off the Gas Pedal.
Route (which I was very aware of the layout:
SH 1 to Ngaruawahia turn off to Whatawhata and the back road to Pirongia and onto Te Awamutu.
From Te Awamutu to Kihikihi left on to Cambridge road but turn off to the right to Mangakino (Commonly known as the Western Access). Very little driven but a gem of a road.
On the Western Access Road is what I call The Staple a piece of road which was straight down across a Bridge and up the other Incline. This night I hit the bridge doing 204kph - Whoa ho ho.
I arrived in Mum's drive at 0145 she thought I had rung from elsewhere closer to home.
