Five Most Important Inventions/Discoveries in History of Man

5.  Medicine.  Throughout history Man has been dallying in medicinal practices to prolong life.  Since the turn of the 20th century that work has escalated to such an extent that life expectancy (back then mid 40's) has escalated to low 80's.

4.   The Wheel.  Once again Man's dalliance in making things easier.  The wheel revolutionized transportation but also became a key to such things as telescopes, microscopes and watches.

3.   Time.  Time has been a construct since the time of the caveman.  By regulating our lives we achieve things in given periods and harness nature for our express purpose.

2.   Fire.  Once again, the caveman gave us the ability to harness nature for our own development as a species, a successful species.  Fire for cooking, for protection, for anything we deem necessary to survive.  Fire was also a key into another possible placegetter, the Machine or Engine more particularly.

And now the surprising winner at 1.  Like all the players above, the 1st placegetter has improved our lives to such an extent we'd be lost without it.  so....

1.  Electricity.  Long marveled throughout time, in the form of lightning, electricity has been seen and never harnessed.  But one man decided that there was something about this stuff and due to his perseverance we now have a society that can never again do without the power of electricity.
