In an earlier blog I raised the issue about New Zealand Cricket management. Today I read two articles ( Andrew Alderson - NZ Herald re NZC/RadioSprt and Andrew Alderson Herald Re Taylor and both hinted at the thoughts I raised in my earlier blog. NZC is currently being pedantic and old worldly in handling the Ross Taylor fallout.
As also stated earlier I think Taylor was a prime candidate to lose the captaincy job but equally I don't think the way he lost it was right, not so much from the Hesson involvement but the way NZC went about backing their coach. My thoughts still stood over the successful England series though it was pleasing to see NZC stand back and let the kudos for that series fall on the players, and not management. But their involvement with Radio Sports ban raised that hoary chestnut again and sadly their handling of the ongoing Taylor saga has only galvanised true cricket followers, Radio Sport listeners, and no doubt the players, into thinking maybe the helm of the ship is indeed in the wrong hands.
New Zealand Cricket has a very quiet remainder of the year to dwell on their mistakes and to take remedial action. With just a two test series versus England and Bangladesh this year, NZC can find the time to sit down and do some serious analyzing (call it Navel Gazing) and come up with leadership and a board that works for NZ cricket, not against it.
Taylor won't go away, and yes he does need to work on his position in the team psychologically speaking. He does need to find his place under the new captain and coach. He needs to do what he is paid to do, represent New Zealand at the highest level with runs and fielding prowess. He also needs to work for the good of the game in being mentally up there so his fans can gloat in his success, the media can bury the hatchet, and NZC don't have that chestnut eroding it's role in the running of the game.
And running the game is what NZC should be doing. Remember they did say they were going to to get assitance in helping them deal with media issues. Well banning any contact with RadioSport, their partner in broadcasting cricket to the masses, was another flop they need to deal with and grow from.
NZC, David White, and the Board. Fess up!! Your time is nigh.
