Plunket Shield 2012 - 13 Halfway Wrap

So the Summer of Cricket is well and truly underway.  Out of 30 games, 14 have been completed with only two drawn matches and two matches still being played.

It's quite apparent this year that teams seem well balanced with most matches going quite close.  Of note is also the propensity for players to convert centuries (and two doubles - both not out).  So far in 14 matches (55 innings) there have been a whopping total of 34 centuries.  I did a little math and the average century maker made 134 runs, so plenty of big centuries (as I said two over 200 but in total 10 over 150 including two bowlers).

In all completed matches to date, there have been 15,203 runs scored with an average innings score of 274, quite high considering the time of year.  Just goes to show many factors are starting to appear in domestic cricket, good batsmen, good bowlers and the unlikely one for late spring early summer, good pitches.  Let's hope when England come the international wickets deliver tight games.

As mentioned before century makers feature in  the figures and another figure is that they have scored 31% of all runs scored, suggesting perhaps some individuals scores don't match their main run scorer??

Anyway, the Summer of Cricket has a long way to go and the Plunket Shield will hold my attention all the way through to it's climax.

Did I say my team are top of the table?
