Yes there is a mystery, and it surrounds Powerball. Now every week if Powerball is struck, the winner gets $3million. That's guaranteed. So that being the case, you'd expect that if a jackpot occurs it will jackpot by the same $3million to the next week.
Not so. The New Zealand Lotteries Commission jackpot the Powerball by a paltry $1million, and as on this weeks jackpot, by a meagre $500k. So the question is, where are the remaining guaranteed dollars going?
Well I'll leave that up to you, the Lotto player. I personally would love to see the $3million jackpot until it is struck, not when it reaches $30million. And I'd also like the NZ Lotteries Commission to say what they do with the extra money they earn off the jackpots. I know they'll trundle out the excuse that it goes to community lottery grants, but what they won't say is how much goes into their profits.
