The Rubber Mountain

Here is a proposal to diminish Tyre Mountains?

There is one thing for certain going forward.  The Tyre Mountain will multiply. And there are too few uses for them.  My proposal:-

1.  Set Up Tyre businesses taking old tyres off retailers and customers and shredding them into small pieces.  These businesses can either shred them as part of the business or sub contract out.

2.  Once shredded there would be many uses for them but the one I want to highlight is based on Earthquake Preparations in Wellington.  Buildings are built on rubber mounts.  So why don't we make it mandatory for all new builds right through the country to be built on shredded rubber. As I know it no one is recycling worldwide so  we could tap into a ready influx of old rubber and steel belting.

Someone mentioned issues with creepy crawlies and insects.  My suggestion is all tyre cargoes go through a large vat of boiling water before being loaded on Bulk Carriers..As to being offloaded and stored or in a suitable place with access to large shipping the Tiwai Smelter buildings can be used to further processing.  And no lack of indoor stowage.  And jobs for Southlanders.

Just a point for discussion - one thing for sure the rubber mountain is still climbing.

  1. The rubber that they use for base isolation systems is very dense. Suggest that you contact the earthquake engineering team at the School of Engineering,University of Canterbury who are world leaders in this field.
